About Speaker
Dr. Saiful Azlan Rosli holds a PhD in Optometry, with research focused on the impact of short wavelength light emitted by electronic devices on the human visual system. He earned his Master’s degree in Optometry from the University of New South Wales, Australia. His academic and research interests encompass visual optics and lighting, electrophysiology, and vision ergonomics.
Dr. Saiful’s research portfolio reflects strong interdisciplinary collaboration. He has led and contributed to multiple projects funded by the Fundamental Research Grant Scheme (FRGS), E-Science Fund, and MITRA, involving partnerships with faculties in music, art and design, and traffic engineering. He currently serves as the principal investigator of an FRGS project exploring digital eye strain by analysing ocular oscillations and electrophysiological responses to spectral light exposure. This research also extends into physiological studies on cell apoptosis and reactive oxygen species (ROS) effects using animal models.
As head of the Optometry and Visual Sciences Research Group (iROViS), he advocates for translational research in visual function, diagnostic innovation, and sustainable eye health through a multidisciplinary approach. In his role as Coordinator of the Centre for Rehabilitation and Clinical Services (Pusat Rehabilitasi & Perkhidmatan Klinikal, PRPK), he oversees local and international clinical training initiatives, while promoting excellence, consistency, and efficiency in allied health services within the faculty.
With a firm commitment to innovation and sustainability, Dr. Saiful continues to make significant contributions to academic advancement, public health integration, and interdisciplinary research in the visual sciences.
