About Speaker

Dr. Ahmad Aidil Arafat bin Dzulkarnain is a Professor at Department of Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology, Kulliyyah of Allied Health Sciences, International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM). He obtained Bachelor of Audiology with Hons from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) in 2003 and received Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) (Audiology) from The University of Queensland, Australia in 2008. He is currently the Dean for Kulliyyah of Allied Health Sciences (KAHS), IIUM and member of Malaysia Dean Council’s for Allied Health Sciences. He was the Deputy Dean of Postgraduate and Research of KAHS from 2017-2021 and the Head of Department of Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology of IIUM from 2012-2013. He had been the visiting academic at The University of Queensland, Australia and visiting scientist at National Acoustic Laboratories (NAL), Australia, both in 2013-2014 respectively.

As a researcher, Prof. Dr Aidil has substantive research works in the area of auditory neurophysiology specifically in the auditory evoked potential (AEP). His research covers the use of AEP for screening, assessment, outcome measures and prediction of the presence of hearing loss and other related disorders along both peripheral and central auditory pathway. One of his notable contributions to the field of AEP is on the technical methodology to make AEP test to be rapid and efficient test whilst maintaining its accuracy. Prof Dr Aidil also utilizes AEP to measure effectiveness of sound-cognitive and emotional therapy intervention in patient with special needs such as autism spectrum disorder and attention deficits hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). This work involves a transdisciplinary collaboration with experts from the field of Electrical & robotic engineering and education to produce a teaching pedagogy module for emotional regulation among autism spectrum disorder children using adaptive robotics platform. The project received funding from the Ministry of Higher Education of Malaysia through Trans-disciplinary research grant scheme (TRGS) with amounting to RM 800 000. In total, Prof Dr Aidil has secured more than RM 1 million of research funding from government, industry, or international agencies. He has authored and presented more than 200 papers in both international, local journals and conferences. He is also working in improving audiology teaching instructions and has done few studies in translating some of the audiology teaching to become a simulated learning. Prof Dr Aidil has published several quality papers in prestigious/high impact local and international journals and at the same time serves as regular journal peer-reviewers. Due to the recognition in his works especially in the auditory neurophysiology, he has been invited many times as either as keynote or plenary speaker or as professional trainer by the Ministry of Health of Malaysia, private agencies, and audiology professional society in Malaysia and overseas. Some of his talks in various topics in audiology are available worldwide in various educational or academic platform. In 2020, he has been awarded by IIUM as the most promising academic (Health Sciences) based on his significant contribution to IIUM in general and audiology (in Malaysia) specifically.
